Κατηγιώργης Ν. Pelion - for fresh fish overlooking Skiathos

Katigiorgis is a small fishing village in the SE. Pelion, N. Magnesia, famous for its taverns serving daily fresh fish from the area.

It is located on the side of the Aegean Sea, just opposite the island of Skiathos (2,5 nm.). Small settlement with a small port, sandy beach with shallow crystal clear waters and a beautiful pine forest that touches the sea.

ΚΑΤΗΓΙΩΡΓΗΣ – ACCESS FROM VOLOS

Administratively it belongs to the Municipality of South Pelion (former Municipality of Sepiada), based in Argalasti and is far away 65 km from Volos and 17 km from Lafko Pelion. The access from Volos is in the direction of Argalasti and Lafko. After Lafko, there is an intersection and two routes, one to Promyri - Lyri - Katigiorgi and the other to Platanias- Muses (left) - Kastri (before the settlement) – Κατηγιώργης.

Promyri, is a glorious village, known as the "Massacre of Promyrio" on 8-5-1823 (by Turks). From the port of Platanias (settlement in N.. of Katigiorgis) boats start, daily, for excursions to Skiathos, for swimming and touring the island and then return to Platanias, with a stop at Katigiorgis for fish eating (Platanias is only far away 6 nm. from Skiathos).
From Milina and Lafko N.. Pelion are organized, mainly from hotels, day cruises, with departure from Platanias, to Skiathos, Reef, Alonissos or to the beaches of N.. Pelion ending at Koukounaries Skiathos.

ΚΑΤΗΓΙΩΡΓΗΣ – FOOD

KATIGIORGIS - BEACHES OF PELION FROM THE AEGEAN SIDE

The Beach Katigiorgi (or Agios Georgios) with taverns and cafes on the sea, is ideal for families with children. The beach is protected from passing cars and children can play freely in the sand and swim in shallow water..

The evening, on the small beach, some choose to party, accompanied by soft music, under the moonlight.

In Katigiorgis and towards Vromoneri there is a small sandy beach, the Vlachorema, with pines to the sea and a small stream. You will arrive following a beautiful path through the pines (10′).

The beach is very famous in the area and in the summer months it is full of people early. You should bring water with you, snacks, umbrella etc as there is no infrastructure here.

Next to Katigiorgis, just behind the harbor, there is another small beach, or Agrelia, with easy path access (5′ walking). Following the course of N. from Katigiorgis the beaches are sandy, with rich vegetation and crystal clear waters.

You will find the following beaches :

Vromoneri, N. of Katigiorgis, Small sandy beach that has been "occupied" by the hotel unit Menagia Village. The beach has umbrellas, sunbeds, beach bar and tavern that belong to the hotel but you can use and swim on the beach even if you do not belong to the customers.

Vromoneri beach, like most of N. Pelion to the Aegean, are affected by the wind that blows on the sea channel Pelion-Skiathos, spoken by the locals «bougainvillea». You can reach Vromoneri following the path from Katigiorgis (about 20′ walking). Access by car is extremely difficult as the road leading to the beach is a dirt road in very poor condition. Opposite Vromoneri, on the Pelion-Skiathos bus, there is the extremely dangerous reef "Lefkari"Or"Lefteris», γι’ this and a small lighthouse has been placed.

For alternative activities, choose reef diving, around the old "Shipwreck VERA».

The cargo ship «WEDDING RINGHe ran aground on the reef 1999, then broke in two and slowly sank. Today it is in depth 17-28 m. with the bow upright and the stern resting on the bottom with its left side (information : https://www.zoumbosub.gr, based in Volos).

Beach Kastri, Stan., 10 km from Katigiorgis and 6 km before Platanias. Beautiful beach with sand and enough air, ideal for windsurfing.

At the beach you will find Camping Kastri Beach, which has space for tents and caravans, tavern, bar etc., https://www.campingkastribeach.com.

You can reach Kastri very easily by car following the coastal road that connects Katigiorgis with Kastri. If you are in Platanias and you want to go swimming in Kastri, you can rent a boat or kayak ( enough to weather permitting).

Platanias (or Platanias), Stan. of Katigiorgis, The seaside village has a large beach, accommodation, taverns, port, marina boats. They depart daily from the port of Platanias (the summer months) day ferries for excursions to neighboring Skiathos. Beach Mother of God, 5′ from Lyri. You will see the church of the Virgin (1807) and ruins of an ancient settlement, which is said to be of ancient Sepiada. Small beach with pebbles and stones, much wind, for those seeking isolation.
Beach Mulberry, B. of Mary. Surrounded by rocks that look like statues in the water, is ideal for taking nice photos.
Beach Coat, B. from Mourtia. Settlement with many hotels and rooms for rent, taverns, cafes and the beach of Agios Konstantinos (or Coat), pebbly, enough people and of course air.
