HISTORY CASA FUSTER
The Casa Fuster built the 1908 by the famous Catalan architect, Lluis Domenech i Montaner. He was a wealthy businessman from Majorca, after marriage to Consuelo Fabra i Puig, daughter Marquis of d 'Alella, He wanted to build a spectacular home to give to his wife. Construction costs amounted to 13 million pesetas, which made it the most expensive city building. It was the first house in Barcelona which was built entirely of white marble. The 1911 the family settled in Casa Fuster but the 1920 forced to sell because the maintenance cost of the house was too high. The new owners settled on the first floor and rented the other rooms of the house. On the ground floor of the house, which was the Grand Ballroom of the Fuster family, initially operated a barber shop and later a grocery.
From 1940 -1950 the ground again turned into a dance hall called "the Danube». Later renamed Viennese coffee, patrons with the most important personalities of the era, as the Spanish poet, Espriu (1913-1985). The 1962, the building was purchased by the electric utility, Enher Electric Company, for 11 million pesetas. The company's intention was to demolish, to raise a modern building and turn it into headquarters. After strong protests of Barcelona residents prevented the demolition of the historic building. The 1999 or Enher puts the Casa Fuster for sale. The 2000 the company Center Hotels buys the building and the 2000 -2004 made renovations. To 2004 house converted into Casa Fuster Hotel, a luxury hotel, 5*, which is among the most expensive hotels in Barcelona.
In the building of five floors, which extends on three fronts, architects, Lluis Domenech i Montaner (1850-1923) and his son, Pere Domenech and Oak (1881-1962) used 300 different ornaments, representative style Catalan Modernism, famous architectural movement of the time in Barcelona.
