Christianoupolis of Trifylia- Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, one of the largest Byzantine monuments in Greece
OR Christianoupolis is a small village of Trifylia Messinia, 12 km A. from Filiatra, ND. Peloponnese.
The 1978 the village Christian renamed Christianoupolis, today's Christianoupolis. It is built at an altitude 392 m., in D.. of the mountain range Egaleo, and only abstains 13 km from its shores Ionian Sea.
The most important attraction of the village is the Sacred Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior (also known as Saint Savior), which is considered one of the bigger and most imposing Byzantine Monuments of Greece. it is largest temple in the Peloponnese and belongs to Holy Diocese of Trifylia and Olympia. The Byzantine Monument was built at the end of it 11th century. when the Christianoupolis from simple Bishopric turned into a headquarters Archdiocese, with Archbishop later Saint Athanasios of Christianoupolis.
at Christianoupolis, near the fountains, It is the church St. Athanasius where in an ornate reliquary, is located a small piece of Holy Relic of St.. The band consists of temple and from a building adjacent to the W. and it is speculated that it was the Episcopal Palace. THE Temple belongs typologically to complex octagonal with I splinted, with several differences from the usual octagonal formula, that we find in Greece. THE octagonal type is divided into continental octagonal, such as Monastery of Saint Luke Fthiotida (standard octagonal formula), or Dafni Monastery of Attica, The temple of Panagia Odigitrias or Hagia Sophia Upper Town of Monemvasia and to island octagonal like the New Monastery of Chios etc.. THE octagonal temple has a square or rectangular floor plan covered with an octagonal dome.
Next to Monument there is also the old church Transfiguration of the Savior, reconstruction and restoration has been undertaken by Ephorate of Antiquities Messinia.

at Christianoupolis the few inhabitants are mainly engaged in agricultural work, in the olive groves and vineyards of the area.
In the village there is only a small cafe-grocery-mini market «HATZINA»Where it offers coffee and fast food (information, K. Miss, tel. : 27210 33514). Also here you can buy local olive oil from the producer Mr.. Savior.
ACCESS TO CHRISTIANOPOLIS
Access to Christianoupolis is made from Filiatra Messinia (12 km Α. settlement) and the paved road passes next to it Filiatrino Dam.
FILIATRINO DAM
The Filiatrino Barrier completed 2017, for the purpose of irrigating the area. the Filiatra away from Kalamata about 80 km, from Kyparissia 15 km, from the Γαργαλιανους 15 km and from Gate about 41 km. Access from the village Country not suitable, as in some places a 4x4 car is required.
