Rodavgi, the village of Artas

The Rodavgi is a mountain village in the municipality of Arta, built on the side of Xerovounio, in altitude 740 m. It owes its name to the pink color of dawn that pops up from the eastern horizon. The ancient name of the village was "Athenaeum», then renamed "Nisista"And the 1962 officially holds the name "Rodavgi».

The previous location of the village was in a deep and steep ravine, the Kakolagkado or Chavos, 2 km north of the current position. After a large landslide in the village was moved on the hill. The view of the village to the Artificial Lake Pournari of Arachthos river, Tzoumerka, Pindos and Agrafa will take your breath away.

The Rodavgi is from Arta 24 km, from Preveza 59 km, from Ioannina 57 km and from Athens, about 370 km.

SIGHTS

Agia Paraskevi Church (1804)

Considered one of the oldest churches in Epirus Epirus with typical architecture. It is basilica-type stone roof, gray slate, resting in 6 stone columns, Doric rhythm. Buoyed by the impressive steps and the high stone steeple. Inside the church you can admire the elaborate wood. It is the parish church of the village is celebrated on 27 July, where a festival.

Folklore Museum

It belongs to Rodavgi Cultural Association and operated by 1995. You will see old household objects and tools of agricultural and livestock occupations of residents.

Library ,It belongs to the Cultural Association and has many historical and folklore books

Cultural centre, Located in the main square and there is a permanent exhibition of historical photos

Source Besson -Arapi, from the Turkish word "Besa". Source creek village, 300 m. from the centre, in an area full of dense vegetation, with trees and a water mill. Here they gave money oath, "Besa", Greeks with the Turks that they will live together peacefully.

Agia Paraskevi Fountain, It was built in 1988 Located on the main street. You can quench your thirst at the source as the water is clean or relax under the perennial plane tree. The old plane tree height 17 m. and the Cultural Association Rodavgi has declared Association "Natural Monument"

gorge Kakolagkadou or Chavou It is an impressive ravine, sharp, with rich vegetation and many wild animals and birds. named Kakolagkado (bad Lagadi) because of the difficulty in accessing and Chavos because anyone who looks "staring", i.e. leaves the unvoiced beauty of. EVENTS

«Chestnut festival and Tsipouro Rodavgi Arta», becomes the 2^or day of October. You will enjoy free baked and boiled chestnuts, kastanosoupa, pancakes, skewers, kontosouvli and cauldrons of raki from local grape "Zampelas". The celebration ends with dancing and singing in the square of Rodavgi, traditional dancing groups, as the Syrrako. The Cultural Association Rodavgi distributes free a small glass cup to drink raki with the label "Chestnut festival and Tsipouro Rodavgi", as a keepsake.

Simultaneously performed bazaar of local agricultural products such as honey, Brown, sweets chestnut, pomegranates, herbs etc..

The festival attracts many visitors so we hired bus from KTEL Artas to transport the world.

«Day in Rodavgi»

It is a daily cultural event organized by the Cultural Association of 1994.

«Kagelari», traditional circular dance. Danced in the square of 2^or day Easter and 28 July, the 2^or day of the feast of St. Paraskevi. The dance is associated with the heroic struggles of the locals against Turkish slavery.

With kagkelarismata - shooting and stafrokagkelo, residents spent release messages without being noticed by the Turks

Festival Saint Paraskevi, at 27 July, becomes litany of Agia Paraskevi image, around the village, accompanied by the philharmonic orchestra.

Trekking route «Rodavgi - Faneromeni». The ascent is the mountain, overlooking Lake Pournari and the valley of Arachthos.

Hiking trails in Xirovouni. Through the paths of the village will get high, mountain of Rodavgi.

Canoe Kayak and Rafting Arachthos. From Rodavgi with minibuses arrive at Plaka Bridge (20 km).

Alternative route from bridge Politsa to bridge Tzara, at the village broom Arta and Kardamos (www.raftingioannina.gr)

Canoe Kayak in Artificial Lake Pournari. Access is mainly from the village Lower Kalentini.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE "DPPA» (4^th B.C.)

The ancient city of the state of Molossos, with King Pyrrhus, near Ancient Amvrakia. The city was destroyed in 168 – 167 B.C. by the Romans because it was one of the four cities of Epirus carrying resistance by closing their gates the Roman legions Annika turkeys.

The site includes the ruins palace Acropolis Orraon. From ancient Acropolis you will see ruins of the double fortification wall, a water tank and many old houses, some of them duplex, preserved in very good condition. Is ranked Kastri (altitude 345 m.) between the villages Ammotopos Arta (10 km from Rodavgi) and Gorgomylos Preveza.

Artificial Lake Pournari

ACCESS

Access from Athens, through the Ionian Road.

After Rio - Antirio, Enter the Ionian Road, with direction to Ioannina -Arta. From the exit "AMMOTOPOS", follow the signs to the village Ammotopos Arta and after about 10 km you reach the Rodavgi.

Access from Athens, through the Provincial Road Arta - Ioannina.
