Serifos, Holidays in the Cyclades, Country – Settlements – Beaches with Restaurants & Βeach Βar

Serifos Cyclades : a mountain mass without vegetation, as it rarely rains, with countless vines, which are supported by stone terraces, old mine galleries, remains of the mines that stopped it 1963 and pristine beaches, most unorganized. The island is designated Natura and maintains its ecological character.

Serifos - Chora

Meadow or Port – Ormos Livadiou. : central port of the island, with settlement and boat marina.

Livadi or Port of Serifos

In the Meadow you will find most hotels, rental rooms, stores, taverns, cafes and bars of the island.

It has a large beach, organised, the Livadi beach, which at the eastern end is called Avlomonas.

Sandy, with lots of tamarisks, umbrellas, sunbeds, beach bar and taverns by the sea. Most of them serve Serfiot dishes such as fennel pancakes (must), luza (sausage), kid, split peas, revithada (chickpeas oven), sun-dried fried tomatoes, salad with capers and sour cream and "Serifiotiko» wine (local variety) or amount (alcoholic drink such as tsipouro). For example, you will find homemade food in the winery "MARINA», In the taverns "Takis», «The Stamatis", one of the oldest on the island (it is also preferred by the locals), fish - seafood in "Beautiful Beautiful», «Of Kali», «Sea urchin», modern tastes in "HYDROLITHOS», «Chamber"etc..

Combine leisurely walking by the boats and then coffee-brunch – drink at Yacht Club Serifos, Compass, Robinson, Calm.

THE "Isalos», except for coffee – drink - food (open from morning until late at night), with umbrellas & sunbeds on its beach Avlomona (and rooms for rent).

The "Threshing floor", on the way to Low Country, has cooked, grilled meats of the hour and a wonderful view of the port.

For paste Sheriff, sweets – pan, macaroons at the pastry shop «Sweetening», for crepes, ice creams, sweets in "My honey» (openly 24 hours) and for fresh bread, puff pastry, pies, sweets in "Daily bread».

Alternatively "Bougatsa of Mitsou» makes traditional Thessaloniki bougatsa, with cheese and cream, on the way between ECO & Club Mine (open only in the morning).

Chora Serifos : capital of the island, built amphitheatrically on a rocky hill, 5 km above Livadi.

Low Country

It is divided into Low Country, with the Evangelistria square and to Above Country, with mills, the Pano Piazza square and Venetian Castle at the top.

High Country

High Country – Piazza - City Hall - Church of Agios Athanasios

in Above Piazza or Piazza or Agios Athanasios Square you will find it town hall (1908, in plans E. Chiller) and his church Ag. Athanasiou (17^th).

You will come in the morning for coffee, until late at night for racomela and meze "In the Army», «Thidira» (the tables are next to each other so it will be a nice company). You will also find bars in its narrow streets Above Country. Bread on wood, Greek sweet bread, buns, pies, sweets to Carpet oven, in a strait (openly 24 hours). At the restaurant "Marathoriza», in Pano Chora, you will find Serfi cuisine.

In the Venetian Castle (1434), the church St. Constantine at the top, you will reach by steep steps but you will be compensated by the view.

Pano Chora – Castle – Agios Konstantinos

in Low Country, in Evangelistria square, you will find it Folklore Museum (tel. : 22810 51181), objects, woven, old furniture and just behind it Open Theater. The island's cultural events take place here, As the Sourauli Festival (wind reed instrument, the lumen, which is made only in Serifos), early August. Before you leave the Low Country worth a visit to KERAMEIO Ceramic Studio, for modern ceramic objects, https://kerameio.gr.

at Chora Serifos you will reach it very easily from Meadow (port) and from an asphalt road or on foot from a path that passes through it Virgin Rest room. Parking spaces are available at Low Country (the buses also stop here) and to Pano Chora, to the mills.

SHERIFF – BEACHES – BEACH BAR – TAVERNS ABOVE THE WAVE

Avlomonas or Meadow : the long beach of the port, with sand, trees, umbrellas, sunbeds, ramp for the disabled, beach bar, taverns. It is an ideal choice for families with children.
Meadows, TO. 1,5 km from Meadow. Settlement in continuation of Livadi, with a long sandy beach, few umbrellas & sunbeds, many accommodations, taverns, cafes and municipal parking. Ideal for families. Here you will find the Corals camping, http://www.corallicamping.gr, which is also the only one on the island. Access by road or on foot from the port, from the steps next to the Tourist Information Office.
Boat : N. of Ormos Livadiou, next to Meadows, at the village Ramos (or Rammos).

Sandy, with easy access from a path that starts from Ramos (also called Caterpillar) or alternatively on foot from Livadakia. In the middle of the seabed there is a reef on which a shipwrecked, γι’ this and the name Karavi. For food you will find the steakhouse, grocer-tavern «The Caterpillars», on the hill above the beach. In the village of Ramos, in Assumption of Mary it becomes an island festival (15/8).

Good Vine : N., after the Boat, 3,5 km from Livadi.

isolated, sandy, without trees, in which you will not find shops for water-food. Access from asphalt and then on foot, in reeds, passing through Sotiras church (15’-20’). At the celebration Transfiguration of the Savior is celebrated (5-6/8). From the main road, with direction to Sotira and Good Vine, there is a road that leads to lighthouse Sword, 7 km asphalt from Livadi and then 1 km bad dirt road (better continue on foot).

Vaya (or Vaya) – Koutalas Bay : 5 km Ν. of Livadi, after the Good Vine and before Good luck.

Golden fine sand, no trees for shade, the hotel Coco – Mat Eco Residences Serifos, some rental villas and a canteen for essentials (open July-August).

The 2019 or Vaya beach became the 1^or non-smoking beach of Greece in which NO SMOKING (apply).

Vaya- Coco Mat Residences Serifos

In the hotel Coco – Mat Eco Residences Serifos, you can sit on Salaryge Bar, for coffee-drink-food (coffee is served by 1 noon to 6 pm. and dinner until 10:30 p.m., tel. : 6948 303164, https://coco-matserifos.com). For umbrellas – sunbeds only canteen (ask in advance for the price) as the others, in front of the Coco – Mat, They are exclusively for hotel customers.

Good luck – Koutalas Bay. : after the Vaya, 12 km Ν. of Livadi.

Huge beach, which fills up with boats early, with dark colored sand and quite a few tamarisks. You will find the exotic eco beach bar WEATHERN, for mango-rum-ice cocktails or to eat under the handmade straw umbrellas, (ideal for events, party etc.), https://www.saanserifos.com and Grandma’s Cafe Rest Bar, for coffee-ice-cream-drink-food.

You spoon – Koutalas Bay : N., 14 km from Chora.

Sand on one end, pebbles on the other, salt marshes and the churches of Ag. Theodora and Ag. Peace at both ends of the beach. For coffee-drink-ice-cream-food, in the Porto Chain Snack Food, with tables on the sand. THE You spoon was a mining center for’ this and you will see the old one loading bridge (to Maliadiko). In the area, on a steep hill, there are remains of the Castle of Gria.

Malliadic (or Hairdresser) : N., after Ormos Koutalas.

quiet beach, in a cove sheltered from the winds, with dark coarse sand and tamarisks. The galleries can be seen on the mountain (books) mining of ores. You will reach Maliadiko by road from the main road, after passing Koutalas and then walking down a downhill path (he wants closed shoes).

Next to Maliadikos, to Mega Livadi, is the isolated one Kalogeros beach. Access by boat or on foot from Maliadikos (20’).

Great Meadow (or Great Meadow) : ND., 12 km from Country.

Mega Livadi - Mining

Village with a sandy beach, in a closed windless bay, perfect place to see the sunset. You will find the taverns "1916», "The Cyclops», «Marditsa» (and rooms for rent). The Great Meadow it was a mining center, due to mining – loading of iron ores. The newest history of the island was written here, with the bloody strike of the workers (21-8-1916), for better working conditions.

In the old sights mining, or loading bridge, the rails, the wagons, the War memorial Strike 1916 – Bust of Konstantinos Spera, union leader of the miners' strike (Memorial Events 21/8) , or Exhibition of rocks & Tools (or Minerals Museum) and the old one residency Mines.

Access to Mega Livadi, by road from Country to Mega Village or by road from Meadows and the Ladle. near the Mega Village (or Megalo Chorio) you will see part of a white Hellenistic tower, The White tower or Aspropyrgos and next to him him Ag. Charalambo. Before Great Meadow, left to Monastery of Evangelistria Akrotiriani, the road leads to Fishing tower or Throne or Cyclops sofa (a large stone building of dimensions 8,80 X 7,20 m.).

Monastery of Evangelistria Akrotiriani

Abyssal : D., 15 km from Livadi. Secluded beach, pebble, ideal for sunset. There are quite a few houses though no taverns. Access by road from a bad dirt road.
Sycamore : B., 17 km from Livadi.

Beautiful beach, from the largest beaches of the island, white sand, scattered white pebbles and many tamarisks, ideal when there is no north wind. Access from a road with many turns (it's kind of tiring but worth it). Coffee – food at «Akrogyali» of Betos, famous tavern, with Serfiot dishes and wine produced by them (they also have rooms for rent). On the way to Sykamia you will pass by the traditional settlement Virgin (The holy mary), with the oldest church of the island, the Virgin or Xylopanagia (11^th c.) and with an island festival on 14- 15/8.

OR Sycamore is the port of the village Galani, 13 km from Livadi.

At the village Galani the fortress is located Taxiarchon Monastery (1570-2), with Church Museum (tel. : 22810 51027) and unlimited views (up to Kythnos).

In the wider area is the Winery CHRYSOLORAS, in place Prophet Elias, region Platys Gialos – Flaskos, tel. : 22810 51216, https://www.chrysoloras.gr.

About 100 m. from the Taxiarchon Monastery a rural road begins, narrow with bends (1,5 km) which ends up in the winery (signposted).

With an amazing view of the Aegean you will come to taste wines from the varieties Serifiotiko (mostly white), Mantilaria, Monemvasia etc.. (produce 10 labels). Visitable for a guided tour (free), lasting 15'-20', in outdoor and indoor spaces, July-August 6 p.m.- 9:30 p.m., September-June, by appointment, tel. : 6979 239597, email : [email protected].

At the tasting (on charge) you will taste Serifio wine like "Dry Village», dry white or rosé, «ORANGE», bio, dry orange wine (6 months maturation in amphora),«Sunny», sweet wine, «Monemvasia», bio, dry white etc.

You can sit outside the winery drinking your wine and admiring the sunset.

Platis Gialos : NE., 10 Km from the Country or 15 km from Livadi, under the Taxiarchon Monastery and Panagia Skopiani. Sand, pebbles, seabed to explore, it is only ideal when there is no north wind. The fish restaurant Nikoulias, overlooking the small beach Medium, is located between the beaches Platis Gialos and Northern (small beach).
Centarhos : NE., 11 km from Chora. Secluded with path access (30’) which starts from the mountain village Kallitsos (or Centarchus). The village, before 1821, it was built a little higher, at location Xiro Horio. A vaulted tomb of Roman Centurion was found near the current settlement’ this is called Centarhos.
Psili Sand : A. of the island or B. of Livadiou, between the beaches St. John and Saint Sostis. The 2003 awarded by the Sunday Times as the best in Europe. Golden Beach, trees, blue-green shallow waters and light waves. The traditional taverns "Stefanakos" and "Manolis", they serve coffee – food. Easy access, drive, after the Dam and then walk up a few steps.
St. John : A., after Fine sand, on the way to the village Centarhos.

Sand with pebbles, trees, the chapel of Ag. Ioannis and a few rooms for rent. Here you won't find nothing about water – coffee - food.

Saint Sostis, in A. of the island or B. of Livadi. Double beach, with the small church of Ag. Right on the small cape and access from a passable dirt road (and for I.X.).

Lia : A. Island's, next to Avlomona (Meadow or Harbor)

Untouched by time, with coarse sand and pebbles, without trees, without taverns, wild landscape overlooking the rock island Ox. Access by road and then on foot from a path (5’).

WALKING SERIFOS – IRON AND STONE PATHWAYS

Hiking in Serifos is done on marked trails (with numbering), total length 46,4 km , of geological or cultural interest. Follow the steps of the miners, walk past old mines, on stone paths, cross the terraced vines.
