Neck Messinian Mani : beautiful seaside settlement with captain's houses, built with local stone, and a picturesque harbor with fishing boats.


You will find her 55 km SE. of Kalamata, following the coastal road Saint Dimitrios Oitylo, after Agios Dimitrios Selinitsa, below the village Dingle Western Mani. A stop to relax in the small square, overlooking the harbor and the sunset, is required.

  • Source of life for the region Mani salt, known in the trade as Salt blossom Mani or Afrina (the upper part of the salt). It is natural iodized salt, without chemical additives, is collected in the traditional way, with hands and spoons, from the rocks of Trachila and is considered a gourmet product. You will find it in Trachila, the ladies of the village dispose of it in bags (ask in the taverns and they will tell you) and in the local grocery stores.

  • Cave Refuge, 3,5 km Δ. settlement Saint Dimitrios Selinitsas (or Selinitsa) Western Mani, next to Katafigio Village accommodation, before the Neck. Three-story cave, still largely unexplored (the investigation began the 1953), it is considered one of the largest caves in Greece (about 1.600 m.). Stalactites and labyrinthine arcades through which flowed an underground river that had an exit at the present entrance of the cave. On the impressive marble slabs, outside the cave, you can lie down to sunbathe or take a bath on the rocks, in front of the cave.   • Dingle or Lagada West Mani

Traditional settlement, built amphitheatrically above Trachila, with stone houses of Maniatic architecture and a wonderful view. Among the sights is the Byzantine church of the Transfiguration of the Savior (14th), monument, the church of Iisodion Theotokos and the Kapitsinou Tower. Here you will find grocery stores with traditional products such as oil, olives, honey, soaps with olive oil, herbs, jams etc.
