THE MUSEUM BUILDING
The house of family Kougioumtzoglou, the wealthy tobacco merchants of Xanthi 19th c., It is now the Folklore & Historic Museum. This family of tobacco workers belonging to big bourgeoisie of Xanthi and characterized for love in technes.To Museum located in the old town of Xanthi, near Metropolis Square of St. John the Baptist, at the corner of the road and Antique Orfeos.
It is a magnificent neo-classical building 1860-1862, rectangular structure composed of two identical houses siblings Athanasiou and Pantelis Kougioumtzoglou. The drawings of floor plans brought them both brothers from Russia, designed with candle on silk fabric. The paintings and interior decoration of dwellings completed 1866 from Xanthi and Bavarian artists.
The look of the building has 26 rectangular windows with decorative frames and two main entrances with arched perimeter frame.
The building has a courtyard where there are two conserved hamam and the church of Saints Akindinon. Internally divided into 13 rooms, with basement, ground and orofo.To of Kougioumtzoglou family house in Plovdiv also houses the Folklore Museum of the City.
REPORTS OF FOLKLORE & HISTORICAL MUSEUM OF XANTHI
The Museum's collection of material initiated by the Progressive Union of Xanthi, FEX founded in 1952. From 1966 He started collecting folklore material until 1980 where donations objects started by the citizens of Xanthi.
The museum includes :
- Utilitarian objects from different social classes
- Books and documents Kougioumtzoglou family
- "Memories on paper" with photos, cards, old tickets, periodically
- philately (from 1961) and mail folders
- Collection of traditional costumes, clothing, weavers, embroidery, knitwear etc.
- Jewelery and valuables, as heaters with ceramic coating
- Paintings, engravings and contemporary art collections.
The ground floor of reports and mentioned in the history of Thrace, the modern history of the city and the life of the ruling bourgeoisie. In the basement there is the report on the agricultural and livestock Xanthi life and the theme "Entrepreneurship in Xanthi early 20th century – professionals- Working class".
